INFORMATION FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS
INFORMATION FOR FIRST-TIME VISITORS
Our prayer for every gathering is that you would feel welcomed and loved and that you wouldn't leave the building
thinking about how cool our artwork was, how funny the preacher was, or how great the music was. We want you to
leave our gathering amazed at God's radical love expressed through the finished work of Jesus Christ.
AN INVITATION FROM OUR PASTOR
HAVE QUESTIONS?
Greenwood Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church is located at 1635 Cokesbury Road Greenwood, SC, near Greenwood High School where Northside Drive intersects 254. We have a horseshoe shaped driveway that curves around the back of our church building, where you can find convenient parking spots on either side of the building as well as behind it.
Our Sunday School classes (9:30 a.m.) are located in the main hallway. Classes for adults are labeled "United/Heaner" and "Elliot Class". The Children's classes are labeled by age group. There are signs posted outside of the classrooms to help you locate them.
There is a time of Fellowship (10:15 a.m.) between Sunday School
and the Worship service where you can help yourself to a cup of coffee and a doughnut and enjoy getting to know people in our Fellowship Hall.
For Sunday worship (10:30 a.m.), make your way to the front doors of the sanctuary. You'll find greeters waiting to help you. Tell them this is your first time worshipping at Greenwood ARP and they'll be glad to answer any questions you may have.
Children are a vital part of our church and welcome at any time.
Our nursery is located at the corner of our building and is clearly marked by a sign. Look for the sign-in desk to your right as you enter the nursery. You'll find nursery classrooms for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers. All caretakers are trusted church members, have submitted to a background check, and are gifted at working with children.
If you prefer to keep your children with you, children of all ages are welcome in our worship service.
At Greenwood ARP, you’re welcome to attend wearing whatever clothes make you comfortable. Many church members wear traditional church attire, such as suits and ties or dresses, and others wear khakis and button down shirts or polos.
Our worship service is a mixture of church traditions, old and new. Services begin after announcements with a call to worship and a time of congregational hymn singing. We generally sing traditional hymns and "Bible Songs" (Psalms set to music), but also welcome newer musical selections that are in harmony with our theological traditions. Our chancel choir also sings most Sundays.
During the service, the congregation is encouraged to be actively engaged in the meditative reading of scripture or an affirmation of faith from our Westminster Standards. These are generally printed in the bulletin or in songbooks and read responsively, led by one of
our elders.
After singing and spending time in pastor-led prayers of Adoration, Confession, Thanksgiving, and Supplication, our deacons receive tithes and offerings. Please don't feel that you are either expected to give or under obligation to give - we simply appreciate you visiting us. Instead, please help us to get to know you by filling out the sheet located in the notebook at the end of the pew. These will be passed down the pew during the service. By filling out your information, it will allow us to thank you for worshipping with us.
Pastor Todd's sermons are always based on the Bible. If you don't own a Bible or forget to bring one, you are welcome to use one of the Bibles in the pew racks. These are copies of the New International Version of the Bible. And you can expect the pastor to teach on specific passages of Scripture while also explaining how to apply the lesson to our life in the 21st century.
After our worship service, the pastor or elders will be waiting to
greet you at the exits. The last thing we want to do is embarrass you, so we'll never ask guests to stand up or raise their hand. We'll get to know you one-on-one, not by calling you out in front of a large group.
If you can't find the information you're looking for here, contact us by calling the church office at (864) 223-6235, or email us by clicking on "contact us" link in the menu at the top or bottom of this page. Our staff will be happy to answer any questions you may have about the church!
